The Bolga basket weaving tradition of Ghana's Bolgatanga region is generations old. Each basket is expertly hand-woven from native dried Elephant grass, taking days to even weeks to complete. Basket weaving has become an integral part of the social structure of many Bolgatanga villages and provides income for up to some 10,000 persons, namely women. All of our Bolga baskets are Fair Trade certified.

The Linka style basket or vase features a fully woven symmetrical design with a restrained, yet colourful patterning.

Why buy from us?:

All of our Bolga baskets ship from Canada where they have undergone quality control and have been reshaped from flat pack shipping. Note that while purchasing a unit directly from Ghana may be cheaper, the item will arrive deformed and there is great risk of damage en route; we found this out the hard way!

Size:

Large 21" dia. x 27"

Color:

Natural Elephant Grass in shades of beige and taupe with organically dyed black, green, and pink patterning.

Care:

Wipe with a damp cloth.

Sustainable and ethically sourced

Black Sheep (White Light) hold ourselves to a high ethical
standard in sourcing our animal products. Most crucially: no animal is killed primarily for our products. All of the hides that we sell are bi-products of the meat industry, thus maximizing the utility of each animal while reducing the potential waste associated with this primary usage.

Our teak, Ankole horn, and marble decor are all sustainably sourced, from teak forests in Indonesia to the indigenous communities of Ankole-Watusi in East Africa and Gyr cattle in India.

Trusted by trade professionals

Many interior designers discover unique and inspiring pieces crafted by our brand. If you seek truly one-of-a-kind items, you’re in the right place.

We work with renowned designers such as Martha Mulholland, Home Smith Interiors, CID DESIGN GROUP, Picket Fence Interior Design and many more, ensuring our collection is always at the forefront of design and quality.

Returns

At this time, we are only accepting exchanges should you have received the wrong item or a damaged article.

Our return policy is on hold, save for extenuating circumstances*, given the incredibly high costs we're inflicted with to clear returns across the Canadian border.: All major carriers charge a fee to process our packages back across the Canadian border. For instance, UPS' 'Entry Prep Fee' is a minimum of $30 per order, irrespective of item value. As a small business, we simply can't absorb these fees.

Please contact us if you are determined to make a return/exchange. Note that all fees associated with the return as assessed and invoiced by the carrier will be deducted from your refund. Processing time of the return is subject to our receipt of the import fee invoice being provided by the carrier.

Thank you for your understanding.

Wholesale orders are final sale, save for quality control issues or damage caused by shipping.

Founder story

We sourced our exceptional Icelandic sheepskins after an extensive search for an architectural project. As pioneers, we were the first to import the highest quality Icelandic sheepskins into North America, setting a new standard in the market.

Today, they are the finest the market has to offer.

At Black Sheep (White Light), we curate decor items from around the globe, bringing world cultures into your home. Our pieces from Iceland, Sweden, India, Africa, China, Argentina, and Indonesia are more than decorations—they are stories of history and craftsmanship.

  • We support "The FUR-BEARERS" foundation

In Canada, hundreds of thousands of animals are killed every year for their fur. Fur-bearing animals are either bred into industrial fur farms across the country or are trapped in wild, urban, and private settings. We stand firmly against these cruel practices and urge you not to purchase any fur that comes from animals killed for it.
