Cowhide Care

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE COWHIDE ON DIRECT SUNLIGHT - IT WILL RESULT IN SOME COLOUR CHANGE!

Your cowhide may arrived slightly wrinkled, please:

Lay It Flat – Place the hide on a clean, hard surface.

Dampen a Towel – Lightly dampen a cotton towel (not soaking wet).

Set Your Iron – Always use a low heat setting with no steam.

Iron Gently – Place the towel over the wrinkled area and gently press the iron on top in quick, light strokes. Avoid holding it in one spot for too long.

Let It Cool – Once done, let the rug cool down while lying flat.

Care: Simple occasional vacuuming is the best for cleaning your cowhide. Use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner and vacuum the rug in the direction of the hairs to prevent any unwanted hair loss.

Any spillages on your rug should be removed as soon as possible to prevent staining.  We recommend soaking up the spillage with some absorbent kitchen towel, then gently wipe the cowhide rug with a damp cloth. Never submerge hide under water - it will ruin the suede back as it will harden when it dries out.

Alternatively, hide can be dry cleaned.

Sustainable and ethically sourced

Black Sheep (White Light) hold ourselves to a high ethical standard in sourcing our animal products.

We ONLY offer real cow hide rugs, a natural byproduct of the farming industry, making them a sustainable choice for your home, thus maximizing the utility of each animal while reducing the potential waste associated with this primary usage.

We import our cowhides from Argentina and work exclusively with one ethical producer and tannery that shares our vision—no animal is ever killed solely for our products.

We import cowhides in a very small batches to ensure the quality, each hide is hand picked by our tannery!

Argentina is known to produce some of the finest quality cowhides in the world due to the large suitable extensions of land, a favorable weather for cattle rising, and a great variety of cow breeds, as well as a long trajectory in the chromium tanning process.

Returns

All our all-natural home decor items are FINAL SALE.

To maintain fair pricing and avoid unnecessary handling, we do not accept returns.

Based on past experiences, some clients have used our marble bookends, horn décor, and sheepskins for events, photo shoots, home staging, and other short-term purposes. This has made it difficult to verify whether returned items have been used.

To ensure the integrity and quality of our products for every customer, all sales are final.

We understand how important it is to match the color of our natural decor items to your interior design and are happy to work with each client on an individual basis to find the perfect fit - please do not hesitate to reach out with your questions before the purchase!

We will accept exchanges should you have received the wrong item or a damaged article.

Another reason why our return policy is on hold are incredibly high costs we're inflicted with to clear returns across the Canadian border: all major carriers charge a fee to process our packages back across the Canadian border. For instance, UPS' 'Entry Prep Fee' is a minimum of $35 per order, irrespective of item value, we also have to pay Customs Duties and taxes on our own return - as a small business, we simply can't absorb these fees.

*If you feel that you absolutely have to return our product - please contact us.

Note that all fees associated with the return as assessed and invoiced by the carrier will be deducted from your refund. Please note that any original shipping charges (if applicable) are non-refundable. A 20% administration and restocking fee will apply to all returns. This fee is used to offset the carbon footprint generated with the return and for the responsible disposal of the products. This fee will be automatically deducted from the reimbursement. Processing time of the return is subject to our receipt of the import fee invoice being provided by the carrier.

Thank you for your understanding.

All wholesale orders are final sale, save for quality control issues or damage caused by shipping.

  • We support "The FUR-BEARERS" foundation

In Canada, hundreds of thousands of animals are killed every year for their fur. Fur-bearing animals are either bred into industrial fur farms across the country or are trapped in wild, urban, and private settings. We stand firmly against these cruel practices and urge you not to purchase any fur that comes from animals killed for it.
