Natural pieces that soothe, soften, and bring luxury to everyday life
WHY WE DO THIS
In 2011, while sourcing materials for an architectural project, we discovered Icelandic sheepskins. Their wild beauty and quiet warmth transformed the space, and us.
Black Sheep (White Light) was created to share that feeling.
Today, we still ensure each all natural, sustainably-sourced piece is chosen with care, made to soothe, soften, and quietly elevate your everyday.
With warmth, Ksenia & Evgeny

THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR STORE!
Here you will learn our history, our practices and beliefs.
For years, we've been on a mission to find the perfect sheepskin—one that’s uniquely beautiful, irresistibly soft, and durable enough for everyday life. We tried Merino, British Long Wool, New Zealand, and Australian varieties, but none measured up. Then we discovered Icelandic sheepskins—and we were blown away.
Native to Iceland, these sheep produce hides with long, shaggy wool that’s incredibly soft, velvety to the touch, and undeniably luxurious. Icelandic sheepskins are in a league of their own when it comes to softness and style.
We only offer real sheepskin rugs, which are natural byproducts of the farming industry—never sourced from animals killed specifically for their hides. This makes them a sustainable, ethical choice for your home. We work exclusively with a small group of like-minded producers—just four in total—from Iceland, Sweden, Finland, and Argentina, all of whom share our values of care, quality, and respect for nature.
If you have a pet, don’t be surprised if they claim your sheepskin before you do! Cats and dogs are naturally drawn to the warmth and comfort it offers—you might have a hard time getting it back. 😊
We’re also excited to share that we’ve been expanding our collection to include carefully sourced, natural design pieces from around the world—each chosen to complement our core offering and reflect our love of authentic beauty.
Thank you so much for being part of our journey. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.

GOTLAND SHEEP
In 2015 we introduced Icelandic Sheepskins to North American market but we didn’t stop there – we wanted CURLS! After extensive search among enormous number of sheep breeds - we found GOTLAND sheep and it completely amazed us!
Native to Gotland Island, where Vikings established this breed, Gotland sheep have been selectively bred over the past century to be hornless and produce some of the world’s most sought-after pelts.
Gotland sheepskin maybe will be the most expensive sheepskin you will ever purchase - but it also will be the purest!
We are committed to only offer ethically sourced skins. All our sheepskins are a byproduct of the meat industry, meaning that we only buy skins that are coming from local famers, who slaughter sheep for meat.
Every Gotland sheepskin we sell comes from a small Swedish Tannery located in a town of just 15,000 people. The Tannery owners are sheep breeders themselves, deeply knowledgeable about how to support the industry sustainably. If these skins aren’t purchased by sheepskin enthusiasts like us, they end up rotting in landfills. By purchasing a Gotland sheepskin, YOU are supporting sustainable practices!
Gotland sheep are raised with love using traditional free-range practices, and their pelts are tanned without the use of harsh chemicals. Sweden’s environmental laws are among the strictest in the world, ensuring you receive a sheepskin produced in a non-toxic environment with minimal impact on nature. These amazing throws are crafted to last a lifetime.
Gotland sheepskins come in variety of grey hues and have a very define curl,
silky and soft, yet extremely durable.
Their unparalleled softness feels like a gentle hug every time!
We encourage you to order our superior quality hand picked Gotland
sheepskins and enjoy their uniqueness with feeling good about your purchase.

5 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ICELANDIC SHEEP
1. It is forbidden to import any other sheep breed to Iceland, making Iceland's sheep the only breed you’ll find in the country.
2. Icelandic sheep have remained genetically unchanged for over 1,000 years and have a strong immune system due to difficult farming conditions in Iceland.
3. The female sheep is an ewe and the male sheep is a ram. Icelandic ewe weighs an average of 150-160 pounds, and Icelandic ram weigh around 200-220 pounds.
4. A gene called the ‘Thoka’ gene, named after the first ewe to carry the gene, has been found in Icelandic sheep, which causes a higher rate of triplets. The gene causes an increase in fertility, which can cause triplets, quads, quints and even sextuplets to be born!
5. They enjoy the silence and serenity of Iceland, being very quiet animals. On the rare occasions they do ‘talk’, their call is very soft and gentle.
