been actively sourcing new select natural design products from around the world to compliment our existing offering. We're very excited about what we have found and hope you will be too.
5 interesting facts about Icelandic sheep
1. It is forbidden to import any other sheep breed to Iceland, making Iceland's sheep the only breed you’ll find in the country.
2. Icelandic sheep have remained genetically unchanged for over 1,000 years and have a strong immune system due to difficult farming conditions in Iceland.
3. The female sheep is an ewe and the male sheep is a ram. Icelandic ewe weighs an average of 150-160 pounds, and Icelandic ram weigh around 200-220 pounds.
4. A gene called the ‘Thoka’ gene, named after the first ewe to carry the gene, has been found in Icelandic sheep, which causes a higher rate of triplets. The gene causes an increase in fertility, which can cause triplets, quads, quints and even sextuplets to be born!
5. They enjoy the silence and serenity of Iceland, being very quiet animals. On the rare occasions they do ‘talk’, their call is very soft and gentle.
